In September 1956, a wooden hall was dedicated by the Carrickfergus Presbytery as a Presbyterian place of worship and the Rev William Boyd was ordained and installed as the minister. Craigy Hill Presbyterian had begun and this September we celebrated our diamond anniversary.
On Saturday the 17th September we had a evening congregational tea, prepared by Mr David Marshall and his able team. Afterwards Mr Arthur Henderson took us back in history to the forming of Craigy Hill and regaled us with wit and wisdom. Mr Brian Clenaghan ably hosted the evening and jogged our memory with a quiz and tested our dexterity with some beanbags. Rev Ben Preston sumed the evening up and encouraged the folk to continue in ‘doing good’.
At evening worship on Sunday the 18th we enjoyed the company of Rt Rev Dr Frank Sellar, Moderator of the General Assembly, and Rev Dr William Boyd and his wife Mabel. Also present were the congregations of 1st Larne and Gardenmore with whom we have enjoyed a long partnership in the gospel. Rev Boyd spoke fondly of his time at Craigy Hill and lead us in thanksgiving prayer. Rev Sellar brought the greetings of the General Assembly and spoke God’s word from Act 16, reminding us that the gospel was for all people and all backgrounds. Mr Alan McClean and Choir had prepared two unique items for worship- a Fanny Crosby poem ‘Sabbath Evening’ as an introit and his own ‘Come and Celebrate’ as a thanksgiving piece. No event is complete without tea and sticky buns and Mr Marshall and team once again were excellent in hosting the three congregations and guests in the Getty Hall.
As our banner, commemorating the anniversary, states ‘All Glory to God Alone’.
